One of the main objectives of UIA 2020 RIO is to stimulate the dialogue between the population and the architectural culture, important for the valorization of the city. For this, a good start is to know the rich heritage of Rio de Janeiro through the Arq.Guia Rio - Knowing the City project. The initiative is free and intended for the public interested in knowing valuable parts of the city.
Arq.Guia Rio is a deployment of a virtual platform launched in 2015 that promotes immersive experiences in Rio's architecture. Architect Lucas Franco, one of the project's creators, will coordinate guided tours with other architects invited by the city's main works, the objective of stimulating the population's look and valuing the local architectural production.
The first visit, limited to the first fifty participants, will be in the "Old Center", Saturday, June 29. In the itinerary, there are the Imperial Place (Paço Imperial), Master Valentim Fountain (Chafariz Mestre Valentim), Teles Arc (Arco do Teles), Barges Station (Estação das Barcas), Nossa Senhora Monte do Carmo Church (Igreja Nossa Senhora Monte do Carmo), Cultural Center of Electoral Justice – CCJE (Centro Cultural da Justiça Eleitoral), Cultural Center of Banco do Brasil – CCBB (Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil), France Brazil House (Casa França Brasil), Boavista Bank (Banco Boavista) and Nossa Senhora da Candelaria Church (Igreja Nossa Senhora da Candelária).
The visit will begin at 9:30 am in the Imperial Palace. It will feature photography tips from Tiago Petrik, founder of Rio Etc - a lifestyle site that portrays and exalts the way to live in the Marvelous City.
The photos taken during the visit with #deolhonorio2020 will be selected and can be viewed on TV Globo's RJTV program.
The project is part of the preparations for the 27th World Congress of Architects UIA2020RIO and in the year RIO World Capital of UNESCO Architecture. It is an achievement of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB) / International Union of Architects (UIA) and Arq.Guia Rio. It has the support of the Architecture and Urbanism Council (CAU - RJ), IAB - RJ and Rede Globo.
